simple and intention filled recipe and ritual for the new moon

Here is a simple but powerful new moon essential oil blend.

Sage for wisdom and purity,
Rosemary for clarity and discernment,
Tea Tree for upliftment and cleansing.

Diffuse into your space and add candle magic for extra wonder. It’s no accident that this is also a great crown chakra and third eye essential oil blend. You can also make enough of an oil blend to apply throughout the week to keep you focused. Notice how clear your space and spirit feels after- inhale deeply and release all that weighs you down.

One of the best parts about this blend is that it makes a great practical base for every new moon- you could add to it as necessary (for example some ylang ylang or jasmine for moons that call for extra sweetness).

I am planning to meet the new moon in sagittarius with hope and anticipation for new paths to take; this will definitely help.

samhain magic: seeking the knowledge of our bones, the skeleton key tarot spread

If you are particularly sensitive to the turn of the wheel, these past few days might have met you with heightened day dreams, clearer visions and dreams, and lightness of thought that feels like living memory.

(#catparentsidebar – also if you have cats, they’ve been extra cat-weird, stalking the corners and shadows- seen and unseen- of your space even more than usual).

The veil is thin. In many practices and cultures this is the time of ghosts- particularly those whose bones we carry in the physical and mystical, our ancestors. Almost giving us no choice but to tune in is the new moon. New moons are the time of the Crone- who I’ve always associated with my ancestral foremothers who keep wisdom whispering around my ear and root space. This is the time to whisper spells blessed with rosemary, calendula, and elder in divine loving remembrance.

meeting The Hierophant as ancestral knowledge

That it’s a new moon in Scorpio in the time of Samhain only emphasizes our call to the depths of our ocean floors- down and deep where the treasure and bones of those before though never beyond us are waiting to be unburied. This is the time to unlock the path of The Hierophant- keeper of your bloodline’s knowledge waiting with the skeleton key to your mysteries.

9 was chosen for ancestral connection and Oya who guides our ancestors to their next journey. It is also 3-thrice which makes it a compact spell of pathway and communication with worlds beyond our plane acknowledging that knowledge is a journey through gates of wisdom. The ocean depths image is for Olokun, keeper of mysteries and shadow and guardian of my ancestors bones who found their freedom at the bottom of the ocean.

As you ask these questions, refer them directly to your trusted ancestral guides. All the questions move together, and the ancestors hardly ever move so linearly- so as much as possible, look at the full scope, not just the individual answers to your queries.

1. What do I need to know/remember as I step into my shadow?

2. What should I leave buried in the ocean depths of my shadow?

3. What should I uncover/recover and bring up to the surface?

4. What else should I bring with me to the surface?

5. What obstacle or guidance meets me at the door?

6. How do I best meet it?

7. What ancestral legacy should I be aware of this season?

8. What should I be aware of as I access it?

9. What is potentially unlocked from this work?

Keep in mind that ancestral work is not just meant for Samhain’s season of remembrance. Ancestral knowledge is always accessible to you should you take the time to seek it out and listen. Making it a part of your regular practice will only deepen your connection to your own innate magic- a forecall to your future ancestral self who always guides you– which was theirs and is yours.

post debate magic because we need all the help. all of it. #politicalwitchesunite

Did you catch the debate tonight? Yeah. I know. Here’s some quick help with that all around gross feeling.

first, breaking baths & rituals. some of your herbal allies are sage, hyssop, cleaver, mugwort, & rosemary. smoke, wash, sprinkle, do whatever you need to clear yourself before you sleep. you absolutely do not need to take it with you.

afterward bring the sweetness back in. sip, breathe in or apply something sweet and calming like lavender, jasmine, calendula, or rose before bed tonight.

and listen to any instinct that tells you to ring sea salt around your bed.

love spell for our grieving queer hearts

To be black and queer is to know violence everyday but it never gets old. The devastation feels new every time. Rest in power to all slain.

I send love to my queer and trans family today.
I send love to all the queer and trans latinx folx who held community last night.
I send love to all the victims of the Orlando shooting and their families.
I send love to all the queer and trans Muslims experiencing violence and erasure as this tragedy continues to unfold.
I send love.

May you take care of yourself however you need to.

I cast Lemon Balm for broken hearts,
I cast Motherwort to hold us,
I cast Sage for those risen to ancestor,
I cast Rosemary as we remember,
I cast Rose for love, always.

first quarter in virgo, a waxing moon guidance

Summer has given me space to sit with myself in a deeper way than I’d ever been able to before the summer. I’ve been able to tuck in and work more diligently through my Lunar Apothecary course and revitalize a practice of sitting intentionally with the moon as she moves through her cycle. She is in the First Quarter phase this weekend, half-lit in meticulous Virgo as she waxes into fullness.

Now is not the time to look to the destination but your steps in the journey. The First Quarter in Virgo brings with her the energy of attention to detail. Pay special attention to your work energy space at this time. This is a perfect time to pay attention to how you plan to implement your goals- all that sometimes dull minutia that nevertheless makes all the difference in the end.

The waxing moon calls up persistence, helping you move through the new and challenging by activating your own inner strength of will. I think of the 9 of Wands energy reinforced by The Chariot. Meditate on the ways The Chariot guides you through the 9 of Wands’ call to task. If you’ve been floundering, now is the perfect time to root back into your power.

Reinforcement Tea Blend

More and more, I’m feeling a particular need to ensure my core power centers- root, sacral, and solar spaces- are protected and clear. So I whipped a blend up to shore my foundations up.

Enjoy it yourself by mixing:

  • Rosemary – protection, clearing, grounding
  • Dandelion Root – release, detox, grounding
  • Holy Basil – bolstering, calming, reassuring, purifying, promotes well-being
  • Thyme – encouraging (emphasis on the courage), clearing,
  • Calendula – soothing, heals old wounds, protection, clearing, warming
